Playground Improvement Project
Help the Miracle League build an ALL-INCLUSIVE playground; a place where everyone can play!
The Miracle League of Northampton Township PA and Northampton Township have embarked on a new journey which involves making improvements to the already popular playground at the Municipal Park on Hatboro and Bristol Roads in Churchville.
Working with Landscape Structures, playground experts in inclusive play, the Miracle League Board of Directors and Township Officials have strategically planned improvements that will welcome children and families of all abilities to learn, play and grow together.
Northampton Township applied for, and received a $270,000 grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Partnership Program and another $50,000 grant from the Department of Economic Development to assist in the funding of this project. The remainder of the funds will be matched through the fundraising efforts of the Miracle League.
Did you know? Exploring is Key for Children's Development
Playgrounds play an important role in the development of children. When at play, all children benefit from exploring the four defined areas of developmental skills: sensory, motor, cognitive, and social/emotional. Multisensory experiences can be beneficial because using more than one sense at a time helps to build the brain more quickly. However, some kids with disabilities may need to break that information into smaller parts. Some may require additional sensory input, others do better with less. Some may prefer to experience this input more frequently, others less frequently. That is why it is so important for playgrounds-especially inclusive playgrounds-to provide a variety of developmental options for kids to choose from.
The pieces of equipment selected for the Playground Improvement Project were chosen with this in mind.
Support the purchase and installation of new equipment so that children can play together without experiencing physical or social barriers.
