Mad Science Preschool Workshops - NEW!!!
Session 2: The children will get up close and personal with the world of bugs, learn about where dinosaurs lived, what they ate and dig for "fossil remains"! They will also learn about powerful plants and plant seeds to take home, grow and eat, explore the fascinating world of worms how do they eat and see? Of course, after worms, they have to discover the fluttering birds - they will learn all about bird's nests, feathers and flight. Finally, they will move to the sea where they will take an imaginary trip to the breach and examine shells, starfish, and sponges - they will even bring home a tiny ocean that fits in their pockets.
Session 3: Your child will explore 6 exciting topics in this session of Mad Science! First, the Mad Science instructor will use demonstrations and hands-on activities to show the power of air! The children will make their own "Loop de Loop" flyers that will soar and spin through the air! Next, it is on to Lasers and Light! Your preschoolers will learn that light travels in waves, and will be astonished as black lights make pictures appear out of nowhere. The following week we will "listen Closely" as the children make some noise! They will learn about sound waves and see and feel the vibrations that generate sound. They will also learn how sound effects can be created from ordinary materials. Week 4 your preschooler will discover the wonders of space in this exciting and interactive class! We'll explore photos of our planet Earth, the sun and moon, and all the planets in our Solar System. Then, in Observation Station, we'll take a closer look at the world around us! Children will get ot use magnifying glasses, mirrors and microscopes, and make their own optical illusion toy to experiment with at home. We'll wrap up the session with weather! Kids will begin to understand how temperature, water, and wind affect weather patterns. They will make their very own wind socks so that they can check the direction of the wind at home!
Session 4: This session kicks off with exploring the many ways in which we measure things every day, including time, temperature and weight. They will balance mini teddy bears on a real scale, and they'll be introduced to length using a big "foot" that they can take home to keep measuring. IN week two, we'll show your energetic preschooler all about...ENERGY! Using springs, wind-up toys, and tube racers, they'll discover that energy can be stored and learn the basics about motion! Week 3 will bring us face to face with our Animal Friends! Children will listen to the sounds that animals make; feel some fur, scale, skin, and feather samples, and make animal footprints! Week 4 will have us singing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" as we learn all about our bodies! Participants will learn about their hearts, blood, skin, and bones with hands-on activities to engage their minds. IN week 5, we will shape the outlook of your little one as we combine shapes to make 2-D and 3-D structures using felt boards and magnatiles. They'll build and take home their very own structure made of marshmallows, toothpicks, and a little creativity! The last week will definitely not be dry as we turn on the Water Works and learn what floats, what sinks, and why! Each child will go home with a shimmering water tube!
