Engineering for Kids Summer Camps
Scratch Programming and Makey Makey (Ages 4-7)
When your favorite song comes on the radio do you sit quietly or do you dance around and play the air drum solo? In Hardware Engineering with Scratch and Makey Makey, we are going to explore how different sounds are created and we will create our own interpretations of common musical instruments like drums, piano, guitar, and even a recorder and we will create our very own dancing program, all through the use of Makey Makey and Scratch to bring our music to life! The last day will end with a bang, or at least a really great mini concert from all of our students!
Design the Future (Ages 8-12)
What does the future look like? Join us as we embark on an odyssey to explore the future of transportation, manufacturing and structural. Let's take a look at the innovations of today and apply them to create the designs of tomorrow as we explore ways to harness clean energy and house a growing human population. Become an engineer and help Design the Future.
Digital and Physical Interface (Ages 8-12)
Imagine designing a piano using celery or creating a custom digital training program. Now, envision playing video games using just your body, a bit of wire and your own imagination. In our hardware engineering program, students engineer their own customized video game controllers using a Makey Makey device and materials that can be found in just about any kitchen. Through application of circuitry, acoustical engineering and video game design, students discover new ways to interact with technology, all while creating unique designs in a fun collaborative environment.
Taking to the Skies (Ages 4-7)
The Junior Aerospace Engineering classes introduce our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design. Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct airplanes, rockets, helicopters, and more.
Momentum Madness (Ages 8-12)
Zero to sixty in two seconds? How fast can an object go without compromising safety? Students in this camp will work with the Pit Crew to design and build vehicles such as dragsters and hovering levitrons, which should be able to withstand astonishing speeds. Fasten your seat belt, the race has begun! During the Momentum Madness camp, students will explore four fields of engineering: industrial, electrical, mechanical, and aerospace. They will design and construct vehicles and safety mechanisms that will achieve the fastest speeds while still maintaining safe racing conditions.
Out of This World (Ages 8-12 years)
Is mankind ready to inhabit the moon? With a little help from Engineering for Kids students, humans will be prepared to take residence by the end of the week! Students will collaborate with their Space State teams to create the safest and most effective community on the moon. Which team will earn enough Astro-Points to be declared the winner? During Out of this World camp, students will explore three fields of engineering: aerospace, civil and chemical. Collaborating with their Space State teams, they will design and construct a variety of projects that will enable mankind to safely inhabit the moon.
Engineer's Camp (Ages 4-7)
Pack your bags and lace up your hiking boots engineers, because at Engineer's camp, we are engineering designs to help us explore the great outdoors. Build a tent, design waterproof clothing, engineer your own survival pack and more! Join us for a week of fun and adventure where everyone goes home a happy camper!
Medieval Machinations - MinecraftEDU Redstone (Ages 8-12)
MinecraftEDU is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. One of the more complicated aspects of MinecraftEDU is Redstone, which is MinecraftEDU's version of electrical circuitry. This class will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval themed adventure of creation, exploration and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the use of Redstone.
3D Printing: Minecraft Creations (Ages 8-12)
3D Printing and Minecraft both represent boundless opportunity for creating even our wildest of ideas! In 3D Printing: Minecraft Creations, students will explore the basic concepts of 3D printing and computer-aided design, or CAD, to bring their most awesome Minecraft creation to life! Students will take their Minecraft design out of the world of Minecraft and learn how to extrude it into a 3D model that can then be modified to be printed in 3D.
All specialty camps risk being cancelled if the minimum number of participants is not met at least one week prior to the first scheduled day. Therefore, do not register for this program if your child needs to be in a program while you are at work. We can not guarantee that this program will take place.
